FULL TIME: STORMERS 35-8 JAGUARES: A convincing victory in the end for the home side. They went behind in the early stages, but proceeded to dominate the majority of the game. The visitors failed to score in a second half where they struggled to make any inroads. They will look back on numerous unforced errors, but the overall strength and execution of the hosts' forward line was the difference between the two teams. Overall, a very satisfactory evening for the Stormers in Cape Town, and a well deserved weekend off.
TRY, STORMERS, PHILLIPS! 35-8: No surprises as the home side go over once more! The forwards bully the Jaguares defense after a line out, and the substitute breaks out of the maul and dives over the line! The conversion is from a tight angle and misses narrowly to the left.
Du Plessis charges through the Jaguares' defense as his team come charging forward again. The Stormers really have dominated the last 30 minutes, and just need to see this one out now.
The Stormers force their opponents into collapsing another scrum and take the penalty quickly. They get within a metre of the line but the ball is stolen by the defense at the critical moment.
An ugly looking high tackle results in Matera and de Allende entering a scrap. It has been a relatively clean game thus far, but neither player wanted to back down there.
De Allende leads the defensive stats for the Stormers with 12 tackles made - he has been a rock for his side tonight.
A scrappy piece of play is followed up by some majestic stepping from Willemse, who looks like he might go all the way for a moment but is stopped in his tracks about five metres out.
CONVERSION, STORMERS, J. DU PLESSIS! 30-8: The fly half takes over the duties with Marais off the field, and makes no mistake in front of the posts.
TRY, STORMERS, JANTJIES! 28-8: The Stormers work it through the phases and the little scrum half identifies a gap, squeezing through and diving over the line. Fantastic try, and has that put the game to bed?
We have a scrum from five metres out as the Jaguares pile on the pressure, but again the Stormers' front line holds strong. They win the penalty and are able to clear their lines.
The visitors manage to sustain the pressure however, and this time opt for touch with their penalty. Can they effectively drive from the lineout here?
The visitors think they've gone over after another well linked spell of play. However, the TMO displays Medrano has knocked it forward just before the line. Unfortunate, they really could have done with that.
CONVERSION, STORMERS, MARAIS! 23-8: No mistake again from the kicker, and the Stormers lead by 15 now.
TRY, STORMERS, KOLISI! 21-8: Wow, what a turn around in play! The home side's forwards are to thank for this one, as they execute a brilliant drive forward. The captain snatches it from the ruck, steps through numerous challenges and goes over!
The Stormers win a penalty after the visitors fail to release the ball. It could be a huge moment for them coming out of that period unscathed.
The Jaguares kick us off for the second period, and instantly make inroads into the Stormers' defense. They are enjoying some great territory here - some early points could change this game considerably.
PENALTY, STORMERS, MARAIS! 16-8: The home side win a penalty on halfway after the hooter sounds, and Marais thumps it through the posts! His kicking has been sublime in this first period!
HALF TIME: STORMERS 16-8 JAGUARES: A well contested battle thus far in Cape Town sees the hosts enjoying a narrow lead. They started slowly but a try from Dan du Plessis alongside three well executed penalties from Marais has given them a moderate lead heading into the break.
Gonzalo Quesada will be in two minds at the break. His team have shown some brilliant spells of play, but ultimately a few too many unforced errors are the reason for them trailing.
PENALTY, STORMERS, MARAIS! 13-8: Sustained pressure from the home side eventually pays off, and the kicker keeps his 100% record for the evening. Stormers lead by five as we approach half time.
Very good territory again from the Stormers, moving it through the phases but the Jaguares'' defense holds firm. Jean-Luc du Plessis departs for Willemse - can the youngster inject some magic into his side''s offensive play?
Etzebeth goes down for the Stormers and fortunately it doesn't appear as bad as first thought - the lock forward is able to carry on for his side.
The Stormers come out on top during the scrum again, they are certainly winning those battles. They can clear their lines after another sustained spell of pressure by the visitors.
PENALTY, JAGUARES, BONILLA! 10-8: The visitors deserve the points after enjoying a good spell of play. The lead for the Stormers is pegged back to two.
The visitors are enjoying territory deep into the Stormers' half, but the hosts are defending brilliantly. Kolisi comes in high though and they will come back for the penalty.
Captain Kolisi does what he does best and steals from the ruck, and sets Leyds on his way. A brilliant last ditch tackle prevents another score for the home side.
CONVERSION, STORMERS, MARAIS! 10-5: Once again no mistake from the kicker, this one was a lot simpler than his previous attempt.
TRY, STORMERS, D. DU PLESSIS! 8-5: The home side win the scrum battle and Jean-Luc du Plessis' chip is handled poorly by the Jaguares. His cousin, Dan, latches onto it and goes over right under the posts!
The Argentine side are linking up well, with plenty of men over especially on the left. The Stormers turn the ball over however and de Allende delivers a strong defensive kick into touch.
PENALTY, STORMERS, MARAIS! 3-5: The left footer steps up from an awkward angle, but his execution is right out of the top draw. First points for the home side!
It has been a rather scrappy first 10 minutes from the Stormers. Statistically they are winning the possession battle, but they have been unable to turn it into territory or points.
The teams enter a game of kick tennis, concluding with Tuculet's long left footed kick into touch just inside the Stormers' half.
TRY, JAGUARES, MOYANO! 0-5: Great spell of play from the visitors! The forwards gain territory and efficiently move the ball out of the ruck, allowing Moroni to spread it to the winger who goes over on the right hand side! The conversion misses narrowly wide.
The home side start brightly as du Plessis looks to spread the ball to the left wing, but the pass is forward and we'll come back for the scrum.
Referee Jaco Peyper blows his whistle, prompting du Plessis to kick off from left to right for the Stormers.
