Great work from Tyler Ardron turns the ball over! Nanai-Seturo, who has just come onto the field, gets it on the wing in space. Beauden Barrett gets quick ball and looks for a cross kick, but this is a poor attempt and just gifts possession back to the Chiefs. The ball lands behind the goal line and is touched down for a 22 drop out.
PENALTY. HURRICANES. B BARRETT. 20-16. Three from three tonight. This, his longest attempt, sails over the posts.
Clever work from TJ Perenara. The Chiefs give a penalty away on halfway. He milks a few extra metres by catching the Chiefs napping and taking it quickly before they retreat 10 metres. The Canes will have a shot at goal from right in front, 40 metres out.
PENALTY. CHIEFS. D MCKENZIE. 20-13. An important kick is knocked over the black dot.
CHIEFS 20-13 HURRICANES. The Chiefs will be elated to take a 7 point lead into half-time. The Canes dominated territory in the first 30 minutes but couldn't cash in as often as they should have. The Chiefs found their feet in the last 10 minutes of the second half and will be tough to stop if they can continue this beautiful, quick, running rugby into the second half.
The second half is underway with a kick off from Beauden Barrett. The Chiefs field it about 30 metres out . The clearance is straight down the middle of the park and Beauden Barrett runs it back.
A dominant scrum from the Chiefs earns them another penalty. This time, they will have a shot at goal.
The Chiefs are really getting going here! They win a lineout on their 22 and with penalty advantage, the ball is handed to the backline. They charge upfield and get it all the way into the Canes 22. Disappointing result for the Canes. They set the maul up beautifully but knock it on while reaching for the line.

The ref has sent this upstairs to have a look and Mike Fraser sticks to his original decision. The penalty is from where the ball lands on the Chiefs 22. This time, the Hurricanes kick to the corner and will have a lineout 5 metres out.
A clear game plan has emerged from the Chiefs. They're playing the ball as quickly as possible and avoiding ruck time. A bit too quick for their capabilities this time results in a knock on, and a scrum to the Hurricanes just inside their half, near to the right sideline.

Some big changes to the Chiefs side today, following the drubbing at the hands of the Crusaders in Christchurch last week. Michael Allardice and Mitch Karpik come into the forward pack for Boshier and Seu, with Tyler Ardron shifting to 8th man. The vibrant young winger Etene Nanai-Seturo is only able to make the bench this week, with Ataata Moeakiola taking his place. The headline change takes place with Solomon Alaimalo missing out due to a head injury, meaning that Marty McKenzie comes in at flyhalf with Damian McKenzie moving to fullback, the position where much of his past success has come.
The Hurricanes have made 4 changes to their side, coming off a tight win against the Highlanders last week. There is a double change in the front row, with Toby Smith and Ben May coming in for Chris Eves and Jeff Toomaga-Allen. Reed Prinsep will start at blindside flank, replacing Liam Mitchell, meaning that Vaea Fifita moves to lock. Following a heavy workload in the first four weeks, big Ben Lam is rested and it's the promising Wes Goosen who takes his place.
Today's referee is Mike Fraser, assisted by Brendon Pickerill and Nick Hogan, with Shane McDermott on TMO duty.
The last time these two sides met was in the playoffs last year, where the Hurricanes prevailed in a tight game 32 - 31. It's worth noting that the Hurricanes haven't won in Waikato since 2015. Having lost their opening four games, the Chiefs will need to extend this streak if they're to have any chance of making the playoffs this season.
It's been hot, humid and cloudy for most of today, but the skies are clearing up and there is no threat of rain. Conditions are perfect for running rugby and we can expect plenty of it today from the quality players that these two sides possess.
Ngani Laumape plays his 50th game for the Hurricanes today.
