The Waratahs manage the final few minutes and Foley boots it out. That's the end of a thriller in Melbourne. The Waratahs pick up all five points but they left it late against the Rebels. The home side walk away with a try-bonus point, but will feel it should have been more. Thanks for joining us!
REBELS 28-38 WARATAHS
Disaster for the Rebels as they turn the ball over in midfield and have a huge overlap. Pat Leafa holds onto the ball when he needed to spread it, and then knocks on.
PENALTY, WARATAHS, FOLEY! 28-38: Magnificent kick from the touchline from Foley. The Tahs have the win here, surely!
Naiyaravoro gets the ball in space and Naiyavanu gets across but doesn't use his arms and it's a penalty against him. Nothing too serious, but it gives Foley a shot a goal that would surely seal the win.
The Tahs run it out of their own half and Higginbotham picks off a little pop pass but then knocks on. That was almost a great chance for the Rebels.
CONVERSION, FOLEY! 28-35: After making the try, Foley adds the extras. Still a long way to go here though.
We've got a little delay as a few players get treatment. There are some tired bodies out there.
TRY, WARATAHS, BEALE! 28-33: Great work from Foley who goes clean through as Ben Meehan is late coming across. The fly-half then feeds Beale for the easy try. That's a bonus point for the Tahs, with 14 men!
Off-target from Debreczeni who had the distance but not the accuracy. Will that come back to haunt the Rebels? A couple of minutes left with an extra man.
A huge scrum from the Rebels and they have a penalty. Here comes a shot at goal to take the lead, but with Harris off it's going to be Debreczeni to take it.
That's unfortunate, the Rebels had made ground into the Tahs half but then a forward pass ends the attack. Harris is heading off to get checked up after his knock.
CONVERSION, HARRIS! 28-28: Straight through with the conversion from Harris and it's level-pegging with 13 minutes left. Adam Ashley-Cooper limps off, can the Rebels knock off both of last year's finalists in successive weeks? They're on top here!
TRY, REBELS, NAIYAVANU! 26-28: Harris was hammered in the last play but has recovered and breaks before floating the ball out wide to Sefenaia Naiyavanu who takes advantage of the extra space to go over. That's the bonus point for the home side.
Great work from the Tahs to hold in the scrum but the Rebels come through the phases. Just five metres out...
YELLOW CARD, NAIYARAVORO: Nightmare from Naiyaravoro as he intentionally knocks the ball dead and he's sin-binned. Reminiscent of Karmichael Hunt when he first came over from league over in France. Clearly didn't know the rules there.
So a huge chance for the Rebels five metres out with an extra man. They get a penalty from the first scrum and they'll take another one. Difficult to see how the Tahs will get out of this.
Foley pulls the conversion just to the left from the touchline. Seven points in it with just under a quarter of the game to go.
TRY, WARATAHS, NAIYARAVORO! 21-28: He's only touched the ball about twice all game, but over goes Naiyaravoro again. Good work from Folau and Potgieter to make the space out wide.
Horne gets an inside ball from Folau and he thinks he's over. We'll go to the TMO...
Great defence from Dom Shipperley and it's going to be just short for Horne. That's a huge moment in the game. We'll have a Waratahs scrum five metres out though.
Chance for the Waratahs as Hooper goes clean through in midfield...
We have a delay for a number of scrum resets. The referee has a word to get the front rows to sort themselves out and the Rebels then earn a penalty. They'll be able to relieve the pressure here.
What a shame! Jacques Potgieter beats two men, one with a lovely dummy, but then knocks on when tackled by the last man, Burgess. Almost a wonderful try.
CONVERSION, HARRIS! 21-23: Easy conversion from in front from Harris and the Rebels aren't going away. We've got a game on here!
Burgess goes off the back of the scrum and it looks like he might have grounded it against the post. We'll go to the TMO...
TRY, REBELS, BURGESS! 19-23: No question about that one. It was good work from Higginbotham and then Burgess. He stretched over the line and that's three tries for the home side.
Great break from Debreczeni and then finds Inman inside him. He's held up though. Great last-ditch defence from the Tahs. Five-metre scrum for the Rebels though.
Eventually Sean McMahon knocks on as he was trying to drive towards the line. We'll come back from a penalty though. The Rebels take the scrum. Big call with half an hour remaining.
The Rebels are slowly making ground in the Tahs 22...
Michael Cheika will be furious at that as the Tahs give away a penalty at the scrum for engaging early. The Rebels kick to the visitors 22.
Ball stolen by the Rebels in the lineout and they kick clear. The Tahs come back again and it ends with a knock-on by Higginbotham in midfield. The visitors are winning the territory battle.
The Rebels look to be keeping the ball a bit more now that their chasing the game. Not a bad call but good work from Skelton at a breakdown earns a penalty.
CONVERSION, FOLEY! 14-23: Another conversion for Foley. Can the Rebels come back again?
TRY, WARATAHS, NAIYARAVORO! 14-21: We barely saw Taqele Naiyaravoro in the first half but he pops up in midfield after a big Tahs maul and he shrugs off one tackler to go over.
We're back and it's Foley who gets the game back underway!
The Rebels are all over Phipps but then a wonderful break from Beale as he goes clean through. Higginbotham scoops up a simple turnover as the support is slow in arriving. Huge moment for the Rebels, who hang on.
Disaster for the Tahs as they mess up the scrum and it looks like Timani has scored. We're going to the TMO...
TRY, REBELS, TIMANI! 12-16: No problem with that and it's a try. It came from a ball that went loose out of the scrum. Poor from Phipps, with Burgess reacting quicker.
CONVERSION, HARRIS! 14-16: Harris adds the extras and it's a two-point game going into the break. That's huge for the Rebels after being dominated for much of the half.
REBELS 14-16 WARATAHS
So close! Tamati Ellison goes through before finding Inman inside him. Hooper comes out of nowhere to make the try-saving tackle then gets up and forces the knock-on. Stunning work from the Wallabies skipper.
Great chance as Shipperley gets away...
What a waste! There was a huge overlap but the ball doesn''t go wide. Colby Faingaa was the man who held on when he should have passed. It came after a lovely grubber from Shipperley that he collected.
Relief for the home side as Dennis knocks on in midfield. The Rebels defence is just about holding but this pressure must be taking its toll.
Great work from the Waratahs at the breakdown to earn another penalty. Higginbotham is debating with the referee but the decisions are going against the Rebels at the moment. They need to sort their discipline.
PENALTY, WARATAHS, FOLEY! 7-16: After that brief delay, Foley slots three more points. It's more than a score lead now and the Tahs are really piling on the pressure.
The Rebels are starting to get penalised regularly, while the Tahs are dominating possession. This time it's offside in their own half. The home side need to turn things around quickly here.
We've got a quick break as Polota-Nau is getting some treatment. He's going to have to go off, he looks a bit shaken up. Tolu Latu comes onto replace him.
Harris pushes the penalty wide. It wasn't an easy kick, but he'd have expected to get it.
A huge scrum from the Tahs but Phipps is penalised for offside. Lucky break for the Rebels, who will take the shot at goal.
The kick was lovely, but that's a really poor pass from Beale that sees Adam Ashley-Cooper knock on. The Rebels could do with some ball here from this scrum.
PENALTY, WARATAHS, BEALE! 7-13: Lovely strike from Beale to slot that one.
More good work from Folau and Rob Horne to make ground. Timani then stupidly takes out Phipps at a ruck and is penalised. Beale will take the shot from just inside the Rebels half.
More pressure on Beale with a high kick. That seems to be a target for the Rebels.
CONVERSION, FOLEY! 7-10: Foley adds the extras and the Tahs are back in control.
TRY, WARATAHS, HOILES! 7-8: Great initial defence from the Rebels but the Tahs get advantage when a tackler fails to roll away. Beale takes a chance with a little chip over the top. He collects and feeds Hoiles inside him for the try. Great score!
There's the danger from the visitors as Folau is almost clean through. The Rebels just hang on and the Waratahs have to go again.
A scrum penalty against the Waratahs gives the Rebels a chance to clear their lines. At the same time Beale gets ready to return for the Tahs.
Great defence from the Rebels though and in the end Lopeti Timani ends the attack with a big tackle. There was a lovely offload from Hooper to Hoiles in the build-up.
The Waratahs are back on the attack again and into the Rebels 22...
The Tahs are giving it a go with ball in hand. Polota-Nau can't hold onto a delicate offload from Sekope Kepu. That was a little optimistic. Meanwhile Beale is heading off to be tested for a concussion. Peter Betham replaces him for now.
CONVERSION, HARRIS! 7-3: This is easy for Harris and the Rebels are on their way. Great start for the home side.
TRY, REBELS, HIGGINBOTHAM! 5-3: It's been coming. The Rebels struggled to make much of the scrum but after recycling the ball, Higginbotham spotted a gap between Will Skelton and Phipps. He shrugs off Skelton's tackle to sprint over.
The lineout is overthrown but the Rebels get away with it as Phipps is hammered by Inman and then knocks on. It's been a physical start so far. Scrum to the Rebels in the visitors' 22.
The Rebels mess it up in midfield and Michael Hooper hacks it away. The Tahs give away a stupid penalty diving on Mike Harris who was on his own. The quick penalty kick goes into touch in the Tahs 22. Another chance for the Rebels.
The Rebels are using the high ball a lot at the moment. Beale is under pressure from one and can''t quite control it. He mops it up but then puts in a poor pass to Nick Phipps who knocks on. Great chance for the Rebels with a scrum in front of the posts on the 22.
Some nice juggling from Beale to keep a ball in play after it had been chipped over him. Debreczeni is then absolutely smashed in midfield by Dave Dennis. That looked painful!
PENALTY, WARATAHS, FOLEY! 0-3: No problem from the left for Foley and the Tahs have the lead early on.
A huge moment as Mitch Inman thumps Tatafu Polota-Nau backwards but the Tahs keep it alive and Israel Folau then puts Rob Horne into space. Again the Rebels infringe, Mike Harris off his feet, and Bernard Foley will take the shot at goal.
The early possession is with the Waratahs, with Kurtley Beale making ground running one kick back. The Rebels infringe and the Tahs kick to touch from the first penalty of the game.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of the Rebels' clash with the Waratahs at AAMI Stadium in Melbourne. Fresh from their first win away from Australian soil, Tony McGahan's side will be keen to take down the champions, who were stunned by the Force last weekend.
Unsurprisingly, McGahan has stuck with virtually the same team that beat the Crusaders in such impressive style. The only change sees Luke Burgess come into the starting lineup for the suspended Nic Stirzaker. Ben Meehan comes onto the bench.
Michael Cheika has also resisted the temptation to make big changes after the Tahs' shock loss at home to the Force. Wycliff Palu pulled out on Thursday and is replaced by Stephen Hoiles, but otherwise it's an unchanged side that will have to bounce back from the opening day disappointment.
It's Jack Debreczeni to get us underway. Here we go!
