Kaplan picks best schoolboy XV he's refereed

Cape Town - Former Test referee Jonathan Kaplan has picked a team made up of the best schoolboy rugby players he has refereed in South Africa over the past 36 years.

In an interview with the Rugby Rocks website, Kaplan said the team is dominated by Western Cape schools because "that is where I have done most of my games".

The XV features 14 Springboks, with the only non-Springbok being centre Paul Jordaan, a former Sharks player.

Jonathan Kaplan's Schoolboy XV:

15 Willie le Roux (Paul Roos), 14 James Small (Greenside), 13 Paul Jordaan (Grey College, Bloemfontein), 12 Jan Serfontein (Grey College, Bloemfontein), 11 Dillyn Leyds (Bishops), 10 Johan Goosen (Grey College, Bloemfontein) and Handre Pollard (Paarl Gimnasium), 9 Herschel Jantjies (Paul Roos), 8 Bob Skinstad (Hilton College), 7 Schalk Burger (Paarl Gimnasium), 6 Siya Kolisi (Grey PE), 5 Andries Bekker (Paul Roos), 4 Marvin Orie (Tygerberg), 3 Frans Malherbe (Paarl Boys’ High), 2 Ashley Johnson (Paarl Gimnasium), 1 Thomas du Toit (Paarl Boys’ High)

Kaplan added that the best coach of a schoolboy team was former Springbok mentor Jake White, who was in charge of Jeppe.
