Harding ends Sunshine Tour Order of Merit title chase

Cape Town - Justin Harding revealed on Thursday that he will not be participating in the remaining Sunshine Tour events this season.

Harding, who is third on the Order of Merit standings, confirmed the news on Twitter saying that he has committed himself to events on the Asian and European Tour.

"I wish all the guys in the hunt for the (trophy) the very best. It has always been a goal but new opportunities have come along," he wrote.

Harding had the opportunity to claim his maiden Order of Merit title, as he was R1.9-million off leader Louis Oosthuizen.

However, it is highly unlikely for Oosthuizen to win as a player must play a minimum of six Sunshine Tour tournaments to be eligible for the title.

Oosthuizen has only played two Sunshine Tour events - the South African Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Zander Lombard is currently second on the standings with R1.88 million with Harding third with R1.4 million winnings.

Nonetheless, it's been an impressive season for Harding as he ends his 2018/19 Sunshine Tour season with wins at the Royal Swazi Open and Lombard Insurance Classic.

The first Sunshine Tour event in 2019 kicks off with the Eye of Africa PGA Championship, which gets under way from January 31-February 3.
