Former US Open champ’s wife arrested

Cape Town - The wife of former US Open champion golfer Lucas Glover has been charged with domestic violence for attacking him after he failed to make the cut at the Players Championship on Saturday, according to reports.

Krista Glover, the wife of the surprise 2009 US Open winner, was arrested at a house where the couple was staying during the tournament, following an altercation with her husband.

Police arrived to find Glover and his wife involved in a "verbal altercation" outside the residence.

He told police that his wife berates him "every time he plays poorly in a tournament”, calling him a 'loser' and a 'p***y', according to a police report.

Glover shot a third round 78 for a MDF (made cut, did not finish) after opening rounds of 68 and 71.

Glover and his mother were both found with lacerations on their arms, while his mother also had blood on her clothes.

The three-time winner on the PGA Tour told officers that his wife had been drinking.

Glover’s wife was also charged with resisting arrest.

She was "screaming while forcefully kicking the rear driver's side door", during her arrest, according to the police report.

Each charge carries a sentence of up to a year in jail.

Glover later released a statement on Twitter asking for the public to respect their privacy.

"On May 12, my wife and mother were involved in an argument to which the police were called. Everyone is fine. Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter. We thank you for respecting our privacy as we work through this unfortunate situation."

The PGA Tour released a statement saying they are ready to provide any assistance.

"We are aware of the situation and Lucas informed us of his statement, which has since been posted to his Twitter account," the PGA Tour said.

"Of course, we are here to provide support to Lucas and his family if needed; however, we are also respecting their request for privacy during this time."

Glover and his wife were married in 2011 and have two children.
