MUTHI was found in the getaway car used by hitmen to escape after killing Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane.
This was revealed by the investigating officer, Detective Kumarasan Pillay in his affidavit in opposition to the bail application of the five suspects linked to the murders.
Testifying in the Durban Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 27 March, he revealed that the suspects allegedly tried to burn a car but failed. In the affidavit, Pillay also revealed that accused one, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi and accused two, Lindani Ndimande allegedly pulled the triggers during the hit.
He said the Mercedes-Benz C200 used in the commission of the murder and attempted murder was recovered near Cato Crest informal settlement on 6 March 2023.
“I attended the scene and established that the white Mercedes-Benz C200 had a registration number ND 151 162. I observed the following on the scene, the motor vehicle was covered with Coca Cola. The petrol cap was open and two burnt matchsticks were found on the entrance of the tank.
“Two burnt matchsticks were found on the floor below the tank. Two spent rifle cartridge cases were found at the back seat of the motor vehicle. One spent rifle cartridge was found on the front of the motor vehicle. Muthi (traditional herbs) was in the back seat. One live 9mm round in nickel casing was found underneath the carpet in the front passenger side,” he said.

Pillay said the evidence collected led him to reasonably conclude that the Mercedes-Benz that was recovered is the same vehicle used at the gateway vehicle in the commission of the murders.
“I base the conclusion on the fact that the 9mm live round in nickel casing that was found in the vehicle is similar to the two nickel spent cartridges found close to the first deceased’s body.
“The left front headlight that was not functioning and was visible in video footage was in the same position on the Mercedes-Benz that was recovered," he said.
Five suspects, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi (30) Lindani Ndimande (35), Siyanda Myeza (21), Mziwethemba Gwabeni (36) and Lindokuhle Ndimande (29) were in the dock facing charges of murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and money laundering.
AKA’s father, Tony Forbes was also in court.
