Erasmus reaches 50-Test landmark at Lord's

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday congratulated its senior umpire, Marais Erasmus, on achieving the milestone of 50 Test matches when he took the field today on the first playing day of the second Test match between England and India at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

SCORECARD: England v India, 2nd Test

Marais is the 17umpire to reach this landmark and the second South African after Rudi Koertzen.

“Congratulations to Marais on reaching this landmark,” commented CSA CEO Thabang Moroe. “He continues to make us extremely proud of everything he has achieved, including winning the David Shepherd Trophy as the ICC’s top umpire for the last two years, and there cannot be a better venue or occasion for him to celebrate his 50thTest match than at Lord’s in a game being contested by two of the world’s foremost cricketing nations.

“He is renowned not just for his accurate decision making but probably even more so for the calm demeanour he brings to ensure the smooth running of the game. He is a wonderful role model for the umpiring community, not just in South Africa, but around the world,” Moroe concluded.
