Cape Town - SA Rugby communications department employee Chris Hewitt handed in his resignation on Thursday. Hewitt had been scheduled to face a misconduct hearing at Saru's offices on Friday.

He formally leaves the company at the end of the month. SA Rugby has not made any payments in respect of the termination of Hewitt's contract other than salary and notice pay due to him.

This statement is a response to the significant public interest in what was an on-going internal disciplinary process until the reporting of certain allegations in the media. SARU wish to point out that the charges related only in part to operational matters surrounding those allegations.
