Federer faces Serbian test in Wimbledon opener

London - Defending Wimbledon champion Roger Federer will face Serbia's Dusan Lajovic in the first round of the 2018 Championships, following the announcement of the draw on Friday.

No 2 seed Rafael Nadal faces Israel's Dudi Sela in the first round, while former champion Andy Murray is up against Frenchman Benoit Paire

Another former champion Novak Djokovic takes on America's Tennys Sandgren in the first round.

There’s also some headline-grabbing first round match-ups. Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, unseeded after his ranking fell following injury, meets No 6 seed Grigor Dimitrov and there will be a battle between two flashy Frenchmen when Gael Monfils meets Richard Gasquet.

Meanwhile on the women's side, former champion Serena Williams will face Arantxa Rus in the first round as the American begins her bid to win a first Grand Slam title since becoming a mother.

Williams has been seeded 25th by All England Club officials despite dropping to 183 in the WTA rankings after a lengthy spell on the sidelines to have her first child.

Defending Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza starts against Britain's Naomi Broady, while 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova faces fellow Russian Vitalia Diatchenko.

World No 1 Simona Halep will open against Japan's Kurumi Nara.
