Anderson’s new pet brings luck

Wimbledon - After South Africa's top-ranked player, Kevin Anderson, dispatched Spain's Fernando Verdasco in  four sets to advance to the second round of Wimbledon on Monday, he joked that maybe his new dog, “Lady Katy”, could be a lucky charm.

Lady Katy is a rescue dog and the latest addition to "Team Anderson".

Anderson described her as weighing only 2.7kg and being a cross between a Daschund and a Chihuahua.

She travels everywhere with the Anderson’s - except when quarantine laws prevent her attendance (such as in Australia, New Zealand and China).

Anderson's wife Kelsey was unable to fly directly to London from the USA, so she flew with Lady Katy to France then onto London via trains and taxis to attend the tournament.

Sometimes Lady Katy even attends his matches where she sits quietly on Kelsey Anderson’s lap (she was absent during Monday’s match as the strict rules associated with Wimbledon don’t permit pets).

Kelsey is a former college golfer, but admitted that since the arrival of Lady Katy she has seen very little of the fairways.

Anderson revealed Lady Katy was a "great leveller" as she was always happy to see him after a match regardless of the result.
