Ferrer withdraws from Wimbledon

London - Spanish player David Ferrer has withdrawn from Wimbledon because of an elbow injury.

Tournament organisers announced that the eighth-seeded Ferrer will be replaced in the draw by lucky loser Luca Vanni of Italy.

Ferrer had been scheduled to face British wildcard entry James Ward in the first round.

Ferrer has never won a major title, but he reached the French Open final in 2013, losing to Rafael Nadal.
