Soweto - Serena and Venus Williams helped inspire dozens of budding young SA tennis players at the Arthur Ashe Academy in Soweto on Saturday.
They played tennis with the kids, aged 8-16; they coached them a little and they talked to them and their parents, encouraging them to believe in themselves and not give up.
The sisters won the hearts of everyone who was there; the children were clearly enthralled and spell-bound to have two of the greatest female tennis players ever visit them and give them some encouragement.
The Williams sisters arrived in South Africa on Saturday morning to champion 'Breaking the Mould' (BTM). This is an initiative created by Octagon SA aimed specifically at acknowledging and recognising women (of all ages) who have broken the mould whether at home, play, at work or in their communities. These are women who have risen above their own set of challenges and adversities to succeed and inspire.
Serena and Venus play an exhibition match on Sunday - their first match to be played on SA turf (Ellis Park Indoor Arena, Sunday 04 November 2012). The match will be broadcast live on SABC 3 at 14:00.
