Serena yet to commit to Australian Open

Cape Town - Defending champion Serena Williams has still not confirmed her appearance for January’s Australian Open.

The former world number one was victorious at the 2017 event while pregnant with her daughter Alexis, which she gave birth to in September.

Williams also took advantage of the break to get married to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and the happy couple are currently on honeymoon in the Bahamas.

However, the start of the 2018 Australian Open is just seven weeks away and coach Patrick Mouratoglou revealed they are yet to decide on her return.

"Serena is getting ready for 2018," the 36-year-old coach told CNN.

"She is practicing and getting back in shape. I will be joining her soon in Florida.

"We will see how her body is reacting and how her tennis level is and we will take a decision regarding Australia."
