Serena reveals drastic isolation plan to ease coronavirus fears

Serena Williams has revealed she plans to self-isolate for a full six weeks at home, vowing to take "serious" measures to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Williams, like all WTA stars, finds herself on a lengthy hiatus due to the next five weeks of tournaments being cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

And, communicating via her Instagram account, she says it’s not something she feels she can take lightly.

“Spending the next 6 weeks in solitude,” Williams said.

“Being a wife. Being a mom. Cooking. Cleaning. Spring cleaning. Face mask. Makeup tutorials.

“I’ll let you know how it goes…. stay safe everyone. This is serious.”

Williams hasn’t played since her shock early elimination from the Australian Open in January at the hands of China’s Wang Qiang.

She was scheduled to return for the Sunshine Double of Indian Wells and the Miami Open, but both were cancelled as the WTA and ATP followed the rest of the sporting world's example in erring on the side of caution.
