SA make strong Fed Cup start

Cape Town - South Africa made a strong start to their Europe/Africa Zone Group III event taking place in Montenegro.

Drawn against the home nation, Rene Plant's team won their encounter 2-1 on Monday, with wins for Katie Poluta in the singles and then a doubles triumph for the team of Madrie le Roux and Chanel Simmonds.

The South Africans are drawn in Pool A along with Montenegro, Finland and Kenya. 

In the other result from their pool, Finland easily defeated Kenya, 3-0.

Finland beat Kenya 3-0

South Africa beat Montenegro 2-1

Singles

Katie Poluta (RSA) bt Anja Draskovic (MNE) 6-2, 4-6, 6-2

Chanel Simmonds (RSA) lost to Danka Kovinic (MNE) 4-6, 5-7

Doubles

Madrie le Roux/Chanel Simmonds (RSA) bt Anja Draskovic/Danka Kovinic (MNE) 6-2, 6-1
