Ulcinj – The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced the official draw for the Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group III event taking place this week (April 16-19).
The four-day event will be played in Ulcinj, Montenegro at the Ulcinj Bellevue.
The eight nations contesting the Europe/Africa Zone Group 2 event are hosts Montenegro, Morocco, Finland, Malta, Ireland, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa. All nations contesting the Zone Group III event will be bidding to qualify for the Fed Cup Euro/Africa Zone Group II next year. One team will be promoted at the end of the event.
South Africa have drawn top seeded Finland, Montenegro and Kenya in their Pool A. South Africa will play Montenegro in their opening tie on Monday morning (11:00). The order of play for the remaining round-robin ties will be announced later on Monday.
There will be a round-robin tournament in each pool. The round-robin ties will be played from Monday, April 16 until Wednesday April 18 and each tie will consist of two singles and a doubles rubber. The winners of each pool will play-off against each other on Thursday, April 19 to determine which nation will advance to Europe/Africa III in 2019.
South African, Captain Rene Plant said that her team faced a big challenge this week, “I think we are in an extremely competitive Pool but our preparations have gone very well and we all very confident and ready for the challenge that lies ahead.”
