Mertens wins title in Lugano

Lugano - Belgium's Elise Mertens, the world number 20, won the third WTA tour title of her career on Sunday by beating Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, in the Lugano final.

Mertens, the second seed, had enough energy after coming through two three-set matches on Saturday just to make it to the final.

It is her second title of the season after she won in Hobart in January in the build-up to the Australian Open.
