Mertens v Buzarnescu in Hobart final

Hobart - Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu will play in her first WTA final against Belgian defending champion Elise Mertens in the Hobart International.

The 57th-ranked upset Ukraine's fifth seed Lesia Tsurenko 6-2, 6-2 in Friday's semi-finals.

Second seed Mertens has the chance to become the first player to win the Hobart title twice after battling past Britain's Heather Watson 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in the other semi-final.

"I was dreaming about it of course, but I never expected it," Buzarnescu said.

"I mean, I am not young. I am 29. Who would expect this at 29?"

Buzarnescu showed no signs of nerves against a misfiring Tsurenko, who finished with 39 unforced errors.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
