Sharapova eases into 3rd round

Miami - Maria Sharapova shook off a lengthy rain delay and a mid-match power outtage to beat Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-0 on Friday in her second-round opener at the Miami ATP Masters and WTA tournament.

The third-seeded Russian, who moved up to No 2 in the world on Monday after her triumph at Indian Wells, needed less than an hour to get past wild card Bouchard on a day when rain had stopped play in earlier matches for three hours.

The contest was halted briefly when a power outtage caused the floodlights to go out.

She next faces Russian Elena Vesnina, a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Croatian Donna Vekic.
