Lisicki ousted in Nuremberg

Nuremberg - Lara Arruabarrena of Spain has upset third-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-2, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3) in a rain-interrupted second round match at the Nuremberg Cup on Wednesday.

After a two-hour delay, there were further interruptions due to the conditions before the 98th-ranked Spaniard reached a quarter-final against Carina Witthoeft of Germany.

The eighth-seeded Witthoeft enjoyed a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win over Evgeniya Rodina of Russia.

Also Wednesday, Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan defeated Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Putintseva, a qualifier, next faces the sixth-seeded Karin Knapp of Italy in the quarter-finals.
