Bartoli out of Fed Cup tie

Limoges - French number one Marion Bartoli, recalled to the country's Fed Cup team to play Germany this weekend after a nine-year absence, has pulled out with 'flu, the French tennis federation said on Friday.

Bartoli, who is ranked 10th in the world, was unable to train on Wednesday and Thursday because of a high fever. She will be replaced by Pauline Parmentier, the FFT said in a statement.

The 28-year-old's absence from the French set-up stemmed from her insistence that her father and coach, Walter, be by her side during the competition, a demand that contravened team rules and prevented her from participating at the London Olympics.

But team captain Amelie Mauresmo persuaded her to return, without conditions.

Bartoli has only played two Fed Cup matches in her career - the last being a doubles rubber in the 2004 final that France lost to Russia.
