Zverev speeds into US Open third round

New York - Fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev raced into the third round of the US Open on Thursday with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 victory over French lucky loser Nicolas Mahut.

Zverev, the 21-year-old German who has climbed the world rankings with three ATP titles this year, had never made it past the second round at Flushing Meadows in three prior appearances.

He'll play either Australian Matthew Ebden or Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany for a place in the last 16.
