SA's Lloyd Harris qualifies for US Open

Cape Town - South Africa will have two participants in this year's US Open men's singles after Lloyd Harris qualified for the main draw.

Harris on Friday beat America's JC Aragone 6-4, 6-2 in his third qualifying match to advance to the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time.

The 21-year-old from Cape Town earlier in the week defeated Sebastian Ofner from Austria (6-2, 6-1) and Roberto Quiroz of Ecuador 7-6 (7/5), 6-3.

Harris, who is ranked 145th in the ATP world rankings, joins compatriot Kevin Anderson in the main draw.

Anderson, who was runner-up at last year's US Open, will open his campaign against unseeded American Ryan Harrison.

Harris still has to wait to see who he will face in the first round.
