Ivanovic not thinking of retirement

Cape Town - Despite another early exit at a grand slam, Ana Ivanovic is not considering hanging up her racket just yet.

The former world No 1 was unceremoniously bundled out in the opening round of the US Open on Tuesday, losing in straight sets to world No 89 Denisa Allertova.

The result marks Ivanovic's fourth first round exit in her last eight grand slam appearances.

Added to that, she has not won a WTA title since 2014 and her world ranking has slipped to 28th.

"No, not at all," said the 28-year-old in a WTA Insider Podcast when asked about retirement.

"I just need to really see why is this happening, you know. Because, I mean, I had struggles throughout my career. I had some tough times. This is not the first time I'm going through this.

"It just hurts because I know what I invested. I've really felt, always, that if you put the hard work in, it will give results. But now, I feel like I've been putting in so much hard work in, but the results just haven't been coming in the matches.

"It's always a process, but also a Catch-22. Because, to win matches you need confidence, but to get confidence you need to win matches. So that's a little bit where I'm at."
