SA draw Luxembourg in 2016 Davis Cup

Cape Town - The Draw for the 2016 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group II competition was held at the ITF offices in London on Tuesday.

South Africa have been seeded in the Euro/Africa Zone Group II  and have drawn Luxembourg at home in round 1. South Africa are ranked 56 on the Davis Cup world rankings two spots ahead of Luxembourg at 58. South Africa and Luxembourg have never met each other before in the competition.

The winner of the tie will play the winner of the Lithuania vs Norway tie in September 2016. The loser will play in the Euro/Africa Zone Group II Play-offs against the loser of the Lithuania vs Norway tie in July 2016.

The draws were made following last weekend’s Americas and Europe/Africa Zone Group I relegation play-off ties on 30 October - 1 November.

The seeds for the draw were based on the new ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking of 2 November.

The tie will be played from 4-6 March 2016 at a venue still to be confirmed by Tennis South Africa.

South Africa retained their Europe/Africa Zone Group II status for 2016 by romping past Ireland 5-0 at home in Centurion, Pretoria at the Irene Country Club to fend off relegation.

Luxembourg lost to Bulgaria in 2015 in a Group 1 promotion/relegation playoff to remain in Group II in 2016.
