Nadal claims Rome Masters

2009-05-03 18:59

Rome - World number one Rafael Nadal won his fourth ATP Rome Masters title on Sunday beating reigning champion Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7/2) 6-2 in the final.

Nadal extended his winning run on clay to 30 matches in just over a year while Djokovic's failure to retain his title saw him lose the world number three spot to Briton Andy Murray.

Although the match ended in two sets, it was a high quality and close run affair until the very end when Djokovic wilted and Nadal ran away with it.

Djokovic played brilliantly at times but the main difference was in unforced errors where he made 40 to just 22 from Nadal.

A tough man playing with so much passion is always going to be hard to beat. The picture says it all

I feel that your article is TOTALLY biased!! You are obviously in favour of Djokovic and fail completely to point out that, yes Novak played excellent tennis, but give credit to Nadal as well!! He played brilliantly, was completely professional and managed to read Djokovic's style of play thereby managing to beat him without any tantrums, racquet tossing and smashing! Nadal is a true champion in every sense of the word! VAMOS RAFA!

Simply the BEST...Real Madrid might have lost against their arch-rival Barca, but NADAL restored the pride of MADRID.

Yes, VAMOS RAFA! As a staunch Rafa-supporter I am so pleased with the way his career is progressing, especially since so many people, at the start of the 2007 season, after Djokovic ousted Federer in the semifinals of the Australian Open and went ahead to capture the tournament, predicted that he, and not Rafa, would eventually topple Roger as World No. 1. Well, two years later, Rafa is king and continues to astonish even the die-hard Federerists, who still claim that he is the best player in the world.

Just like with the Australian open your article is still biased. I can sense that you people still think Roger is better than Rafa. Give Nadal the credit he deserves, the boy is just too good.

What a match... These guys are definitely the best clay court players at the moment. That aside, I was really please to see what Nadal did in the first game. Break point Nadal. Djokovic returns a ball that is called wide. Nadal breaks first game!!! But wait... Nadal approaches the line and studies the impact... looks up at the umpire and signals that the ball was in fact in. Djokovic gets a life line... WOW!!! Now that's what true sportsmanship is about. The sign of a great champion is not all about winning, but also about how you win. McLaren and Lewis Hamilton could learn a few things from you! Vamos Nadal!!!
