Anderson crashes out in Paris

Cape Town - South Africa's Kevin Anderson has crashed out of the French Open, losing 4-6, 2-6, 6-1, 5-7 to 36-year-old Stephane Robert of France in the first round of the tournament.

Anderson who suffered a woeful start to 2016, underwent surgery for a troublesome ankle injury in March. He also struggled with a knee and shoulder injury early in the year.

He returned to action at the Madrid Open at the start of May and reached the quarter-finals of the Nice open last week before losing in straight sets to Portugal's Joao Sousa.

Earlier, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal all proceeded into the second round of the tournament.
