Rain halts French Open play

Paris - Heavy rain brought play to a halt on the fifth day of the French Open on Thursday at 12:30.

Before the suspension, Serb 18th seed Jelena Jankovic and China's Zheng Jie had both made the third round.

Jankovic, a semi-finalist in 2007, 2008 and 2010 beat Spain's Garbine Muguruza 6-3, 6-0.

Zheng reached the last 32 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Melanie Oudin of the United States.

German men's 16th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber also made the third round without hitting a ball when Taiwan opponent Lu Yen-Hsun withdrew with an ankle injury.

Rain had hit the schedule on Tuesday when four hours of play was lost.
