Federer climbs past Nadal

Berlin - Roger Federer moved into second place past Rafael Nadal in the latest ATP tennis rankings issued on Monday, the day after a record-equalling 20th Masters title for the Swiss player.

Federer has 9 340 points to the 9 105 of Nadal, who like leader Novak Djokovic (11 200) was eliminated early in the Madrid Masters and complained about the slippery blue clay surface there.

The former number one Federer beat seventh-ranked Tomas Bredych for the title in the Spanish capital on Sunday, equalling Nadal's Masters record and getting a 74th career title.
