Possible Kerber-Muguruza quarter-final at Aussie Open

Melbourne - World No 1 and defending champion Angelique Kerber may face a quarter-final with French Open winner Garbine Muguruza after the Australian Open draw was made on Friday.

Kerber, who beat Serena Williams to win the first of her two Grand Slams last year in Melbourne, starts with a first-round clash with Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko.

Williams, chasing an Open-era record 23rd Grand Slam crown, opens her account against Swiss Belinda Bencic and could face Slovak Dominika Cibulkova in the last eight.

The American powerhouse, who has won six Australian Opens, has US Open finalist Karolina Pliskova and two-time Melbourne Park semi-finalist Agnieszka Radwanska in her bottom half of the draw.

British world No 10 Johanna Konta faces Belgian Kirsten Flipkens first up and is also in the bottom half of the draw.
