Azarenka - The spiritual sports fan

Melbourne - During Victoria Azarenka’s press conference after defeating Barbara Strycova 6-2, 6-4 she revealed she is a very passionate sports fan.

“You know I’m a huge sports fan, so when I’m a fan of somebody, I’m a die hard,” she confirmed.

Azarenka’s is a massive fan of the NFL. This attraction was established by spending so much time in the United States.

“It’s such a big sport in the States, You can’t miss it. Like you go to a bar and it’s always showing, baseball or football. I like to get into it.”

Azarenka expressed her love for the Denver Broncos.

“I’m a fan of Peyton Manning, so when he started playing there I have just so much respect for him.”

Azarenka detailed how nervous she gets while watching sport.

“I was emotional about the Broncos game the whole morning. I turned on the TV while the Broncos versus Patriots game was on and I just couldn’t look over there. I’ll get nervous. I get emotional.”

Azarenka compared the differences between playing sport and watching sport.

“I’m in control of my body, of my emotions. That’s all on me. When it’s somebody else doing it and I have absolutely no control, I go loco. I will scream.”

Azarenka disclosed that she although she is excited by the participants of Super Bowl 50 featuring the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers she is not prepared to back either team.

“I’m sitting this one out. Let the best team win.”

Azarenka has strong feelings for both of the quarterbacks on display in this year’s showpiece.

“This was my dream final, to be honest, so I can’t wait to actually see them both. I think it’s Cam’s (Newton) dream, you know, and Peyton, you know, so deep in his career it’s definitely a dream again. It’s going to be awesome”

Azarenka is a big fan of Hawaii and regularly visits special friends on Kauai every year around Thanksgiving.

“Well, Hawaii is probably my favourite place in the entire world. I feel so connected there.”

Azarenka loves the spiritual nature of Kauai.

“This is one place I never need a phone. I never want to touch my phone. Like really, I just feel so free and so connected there.”

Azarenka will be hoping that she continues to dominate her chosen sport. By tapping into her clearly spiritual side she may be able to keep her feet well and truly on the ground and ultimately continue to focus on one match at a time.
