Potchefstroom - South African tennis player Kevin Anderson beat Croatian Ivan Dodig 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) to take the first point of their Davis Cup World group playoff tie in Potchefstroom on Friday.
Anderson, sporting strapping on his left knee, won the first two sets and looked confident in his serve before the Croatian came back into the match in the third set.
The rubber went to a tie-break in the fourth set but Anderson provided the final blow to take the hosts into a 1-0 lead in the tie.
South African Izak van der Merwe takes on Croatian Marin Cilic in the second singles rubber.
