Zverev may rethink anti-Davs Cup stance

Alexander Zverev says the coronavirus crisis may make him rethink his stance on refusing to play in the new version of the Davis Cup this year.

The German was a strong detractor of the new week-long format that did away with home and away legs when it debuted last year.

He flat-out refused to play in it, opting instead to go on an exhibition tour with Roger Federer in Central and South America, claiming "I just don't think it's the real Davis Cup anymore".

However, there has been no tennis since March due to the coronavirus outbreak, and it is not expected to return any time soon either, and that may sway Zverev's enthusiasm for the competition.

"If we don't play a tournament by November and it's the first tournament in Madrid, I would be eager to play tennis again," Zverev told Nau. "That's why we have to have a look.

"I always say that I love to play for Germany and hopefully I can do all three disciplines at the Olympics.

"I also like to play the ATP Cup and I appreciated the Davis Cup - as long as it was the real Davis Cup."
