Wawrinka adds big name to coaching team

Cape Town - Roland Garros runner-up Stan Wawrinka has confirmed that he has added American Paul Annacone to his coaching team ahead of the upcoming grass court season, which includes Wimbledon.

The 52-year-old Annacone has coached some big names in the past; including former world number one Pete Sampras from 1995-2002, and has worked with Wawrinka's current coach Magnus Norman plus a spell with Swiss superstar Roger Federer in 2010 and 2011.

The Swiss world No.3 confirmed the news on Sunday after his straight sets loss to Rafa Nadal in the Roland Garros final.

"I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I have added Paul Annacone to our existing coaching staff to help during the grass-court season over the next four weeks," Wawrinka said.

"Paul's experience speaks for itself having worked with some of the greatest players of all time. His knowledge can only better our understanding of the grass. It's a real privilege and honour to add such a coach to our corner."

The first grasscourt event for Wawrinka will be Birmingham's Aegon Championships before heading on to Wimbledon which starts on July 3.

The 32-year-old Wawrinka, who has won three grand slams with Wimbledon being the only one he has not won, has not enjoyed too much success while playing on grass courts with a best showing at Wimbledon being two quarter-final losses in 2015 and 2015.
