WATCH: Zverev gifts girl headband after hitting her with smash

Cape Town - Germany's Alexander Zverev may have lost his doubles match with brother Mischa at the Italian Open on Monday, but he won the heart of a young fan.

At 3-3 in the first set of their match against South Africa's Raven Klaasen and New Zealand’s Michael Venus, the younger Zverev hit a smash which ended up hitting a young girl sitting in the stands.

At the next changeover, Zverev greeted the young fan and tied one of his headbands around her forehead, leaving the youngster with a big smile on her face.

"I obviously hit her with an overhead, which was not on purpose," Zverev said.

"I saw she was a little bit sad, crying. Yeah, I thought that was the right thing to do, to give her a little present, cheer her up. I hope it made her day," Zverev told the ATP Tour's official website.

Klaasen and Venus won the match 7-6 (7/2), 6-4.
