Schwartzman triumphs in Rio

Rio de Janeiro - Argentina's Diego Schwartzman won his second ATP tour title as he overpowered an exhausted Fernando Verdasco to win the Rio Open 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was in commanding form against an opponent who appeared to run out of puff after reaching both the singles and doubles finals in Rio.

The 5-foot-7 Argentine, who didn’t drop a set all tournament, will make his top 20 debut in the ATP Rankings this week at No 18.

According to the ATP Tour’s official website, Schwartzman improved to a 2-2 win-loss record in ATP World Tour finals.

His previous win was two years ago in Istanbul.
