SA draw Estonia in 2017 Davis Cup

Cape Town - The draw for the 2017 Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II competition was held at the ITF offices in London on Thursday.

South Africa have been seeded No 8 in the Euro/Africa Zone Group II and have drawn unseeded Estonia at home in Round 1.

The South Africans are ranked No 58 on the Davis Cup world rankings, 22 spots ahead of Estonia at No 80. The two nations have never met before in the Davis Cup.

The winner of the tie will play the winner of the Monaco v Slovenia tie in April 2017. The loser will play in the Euro/Africa Zone Group II playoffs against the loser of the Monaco v Slovenia tie, also in April 2017.

The seeds for the draw were based on the new ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking of September 19.

The tie will be played from February 3-5, 2017 at a venue still to be confirmed by Tennis South Africa.

South Africa retained their Europe/Africa Zone Group II status for 2017 by romping past Luxembourg 5-0 at home in Centurion, Pretoria at the Irene Country Club.

Estonia were promoted to Group II after winning their Group III competition at home in 2016.
