Opening day at Queen's nearly rained out

London - Just one match was completed on a weather-disrupted opening day of the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club.

The opening first-round clash between France's Richard Gasquet and American Steve Johnson suffered several disruptions throughout, and though it was eventually completed, no other first-round matches managed to get under way on the day.

Johnson eventually came out on top, securing a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 upset victory over Gasquet - his first career win over a top 10 player.

Gasquet will no doubt blame the weather delays. He had a set point before the match was called off for a third time at 5-5 in the first set, but when play finally resumed much later on, it was Johnson who made the most of his opportunities.

A couple of qualifying matches were completed earlier in the day. Last year's runner-up Kevin Anderson defeated Czech Jiri Vesely 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5) to enter the main draw, while Canadian Vasek Pospisil joined him after a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Tobias Kamke.
