Murray seeks Lendl help to end slump

Cape Town - Andy Murray will work intensively with coach Ivan Lendl ahead of the French Open in a bid to halt his slump.

Murray crashed out to Croatian Borna Coric in the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open this week, as the world number one continued his struggles to find a consistent run of form.

The British player has barely seen part-time coach Lendl since losing in the fourth round at January’s Australian Open.

But Lendl will work with Murray for a week before the French Open and the pair could remain together for the three week grass court build-up to Wimbledon.

Murray said: “I speak to him pretty much every Monday, I spoke to him three times the week before Monte. I speak to him maybe a couple of times per week.”

However, Murray does not believe his coaching situation is a reason behind his recent struggles.

“This time last year I was predominantly with Jamie (Delgado), nobody else,” he added.

“I stopped with Amelie (Mauresmo) here last year and things went very well on the clay, so that’s no reason why things may not be going well right now.

“There’s no blame on anyone, it’s down to me.”
