Forget gets top French Open job

Pais - Guy Forget has been appointed as the new director of the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros.

The French Tennis Federation said in a statement on Friday that Forget - who was France's Davis Cup captain from 1999-2012 - will replace Gilbert Ysern, who was fired earlier this month.

The 51-year-old Forget has been director of the Paris Masters indoor tournament since 2012. As a player, Forget reached a career-high ranking of No 4 in 1991, twice won the Davis Cup and reached five Grand Slam quarterfinals.

Ysern was also a general director within the FFT, and will be replaced in that role by Jeremy Botton, who will oversee plans for the renovation and modernisation of Roland Garros.

The French Open runs from May 22-June 5.
