Basel - As the tennis career of the legendary Roger Federer winds down, he revealed he will not sit idle in his retirement.

The Swiss ace has been a mainstay of the ATP Tour for 20 years and it’s crazy to think that while his first title came 2001, 17 years on Federer is still winning Grand Slams.

But the years have taken their toll on ageing legs and Federer has skipped the clay court swing altogether for the last two seasons.
Now, the 37-year-old has to realistically start thinking about hanging up the racket for good.

“After my career, I will not sit on the sofa,” the 20-time grand slam winner told NZZ.

“Recently I bought an old autobus from the 60s. I am looking forward to travel with it. Europe is little, everything is easily accessible. Travelling is easier than ever. I would like to visit all the cities and countries where I was as a tennis player - completely relaxed and without the sports pressure.”

All that said, Federer has two sets of twins and has built a wonderful home in Basel, Switzerland, which he admits still has his heart.

“In the end, you are home where the family is,” he continued.

“Until I am with my wife Mirka, my four children, the world goes well for me. But obviously, there are places that mean more to me than others, and Basel is at the top. Now my home is where children feel most comfortable."

Federer is currently playing in one of his most successful tournaments, the Swiss Indoors, which is hosted in Basel, where he is the defending champion and eight-time winner.

He opened his campaign with a tough 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Serbia's Filip Krajinovic on Tuesday.
