Elbow injury forces Anderson out of Indian Wells tournament

Indian Wells - Fifth-seeded South African Kevin Anderson pulled out of the Indian Wells ATP Masters on Friday with an elbow injury, organizers said.

Anderson, ranked fifth in the world, will be replaced in the draw by lucky loser Miomir Kecmanovic, ranked 130th.

The Serb will open with a second-round match against German Maximilian Marterer, who defeated France's Ugo Humbert in the first round.

Anderson, the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2018, won the ATP Maharashtra Open in Pune in January, but slumped out of the Australian Open in the second round.

The injury prevented Anderson from defending his title at the New York Open in February.
