Del Potro happy to be Davis Cup underdogs

Cape Town - Juan Martin Del Potro is happy for Argentina to be cast in the role of underdogs for this weekend’s Davis Cup final against Croatia.

Argentina caused a shock in the semi-finals two months ago when they triumphed against Andy Murray’s Great Britain, but on paper, they face an even sterner challenge in Zagreb.

World No 38 Del Potro is the highest-ranked player on the Argentina side, yet Croatia boast two members of the top 20 in Marin Cilic and Ivo Karlovic.

Coupled with Croatia’s home advantage, Del Potro believes the pressure is firmly off the Argentina side.

“They put a lot of effort to win against France in the semi-finals,” he said, as quoted by Tennis World website.

“They are playing at home and are the favourites. We did our job in Glasgow, but I think they have a little advantage.

“None of us have a better ranking than the Croatians, not in singles nor in doubles," Del Potro said.

“And the paths to come here have been different for the two teams.

“Each of our wins has been a surprise, they are the favourites and that's what makes me calm.”
