Estoril - Sixth-seeded Borna Coric defeated Italian qualifier Andrea Arnaboldi of Italy 6-4, 6-1 on Monday to reach the second round of the Estoril Open.

Coric broke Arnaboldi's serve four times to win his opening match at the clay-court tournament. The 40th-ranked Croat will face either Benjamin Becker of Germany or Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil, who play on Tuesday.

Seventh-seeded Leonardo Mayer of Argentina eased to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Portuguese wild card Pedro Sousa, setting up a match against either Paolo Lorenzi of Italy or Swedish qualifier Elias Ymer.

Clay-court specialist Nicolas Almagro defeated another Portuguese wild card, Frederico Ferreira Silva, 6-3, 6-2. He faces fourth-seeded Joao Sousa next.
