Chilean talent Garin overcomes Berrettini to win Munich title

Berlin - Chile's Cristian Garin completed a dream week by beating Matteo Berrettini 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7/1) in the final of the Munich Open on Sunday to claim the second ATP tour title of his career.

Ranked 47 in the world at the beginning of the tournament, Garin pulled off a string of surprises in Munich, knocking out world number three Alexander Zverev and third seed Marco Cecchinato on his way to the final.

The 22-year-old wobbled when serving for the match at 5-3 in the final set, but triumphed in the tie break to beat Berrettini in an enthralling final.

Having been ranked outside the top 200 just a year ago, Garin won his first ever ATP tour title in Houston last month, becoming the first Chilean singles champion on the circuit in ten years.

Berrettini had earlier defeated Spanish fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-2 in a semi-final held over from Saturday due to rain.
