Auger-Aliassime admits he's no fan of Kyrgios after Queen's clash

Cape Town - While he has nothing but praise for the Australian's tennis game, Felix Auger-Aliassime is far less complimentary of Nick Kyrgios as a person.

The two young stars met at Queen’s this week, where Auger-Aliassime got to witness Kyrgios’ volatile nature up close, as the Australian repeatedly ranted at officials and even threw his racquet off the court after losing the match.

Kyrgios’ nature splits opinion between those who value the entertainment of his controversial ways and those who deride it, and Auger-Aliassime has declared himself firmly in the latter - despite being an admirer of his talents.

“I think he’s a good tennis player, but I could never be friends or close to a person like that,’ he told Tennis Life Media.

“Beyond that, if I wasn’t a tennis player - for example, if we knew each other at school or whatever - he’s not someone I would be friends with or hang out with.

“So you have to look at two things. There’s the tennis player, and there’s the person. I don’t really feel like associating with a person like that.’

“All I have to say, really, about a person like that is that I admire what he does on the court. He’s a very good player. His tennis qualities are incredible.”
