Cape Town - South Africa’s Kevin Anderson has won his first-round match at the Mexican Open in Acapulco.
Anderson, who reached a career-high No 8 in the world rankings on Monday, defeated Moldova’s Radu Albot in straight-sets 6-4, 6-3.
Anderson hit 11 aces and broke his 86th-ranked opponent four times to sail into the second round.
In his next match, Anderson will face either Adrian Mannarino of France or Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania.
Anderson is the fifth seed at the event, with world No 2 Rafael Nadal the top seed.
World No 5 Alexander Zeverev is the second seed, followed by world No 6 Dominic Thiem and world No 10 Jack Sock.
