The big serving South African, ranked No 3 for the tournament, went down 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) in a tight encounter that lasted two hours and 26 minutes.

Anderson managed 26 aces and a 75% first service percentage, but it was not enough to see off his opponent from Argentina, ranked 38th in the world.
