Ferrari trouble for Tomic

Sydney - Australian tennis ace Bernard Tomic has been caught speeding in his yellow Ferrari and will lose his licence, reports said on Wednesday.

Fresh from the Australian Open where he was knocked out in the third round by Swiss master Roger Federer, Tomic was allegedly clocked going 78km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old was handed a A$220 fine which comes with a loss of three points from his licence, the Sydney Morning Herald said, adding that the player only had one point to lose given past infringements.

He was found guilty in November of failing to stop for police in a high-powered orange BMW some 11 months earlier.

At the same hearing in November the tennis star also admitted to three other charges after a series of run-ins with the authorities on the same day relating to his driving.

Tomic has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons before, falling foul of Tennis Australia several times since reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2011.

Despite winning the Sydney International this month and his promising form at the Australian Open, he has not been picked for the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Taiwan after he was disciplined for a lack of professionalism.

"I've had a slippery slope the last year," Tomic admitted in December. "It's changing me and I'll prove I'm going to be the best-ever player one day to play this game."
